Telephone consultations and nurse appointments
- We are open for consultations, nurse appointments and immunisations.
- You will have to telephone and speak to us first for all appointments
- Many appointments will be booked for a telephone or video consultation in the first instance.
- We are unable to offer all our routine services and referrals, please telephone us for further information.
- We have separated areas for babies and parents for baby health check and immunisations.
- Please make sure you come in for your babies immunisations, telephone to make your appointment, our receptionists will let you know how to attend your appointment in the safest way possible.
Covid testing and self isolation
We are getting high numbers of telephone calls regarding self isolation and testing and this is causing our phone lines to be busy. We understand how anxious and frustrated people can feel when dealing with concerns over symptoms in their household members but we ask patients not to contact us regarding covid at the surgery unless there are genuine concerns about a patient's health. Here are some FAQs from recent days that you might find helpful:
Q1 How do I know whether to keep my child off school if they have cold symptoms?
A1 Runny noses, sneezes and temperatures below 37.8 are not suggestive of covid on their own. You only need to keep them away from school if their temperature is above 37.8, they have a new and persistent cough or have suddenly lost their sense of smell.
Q2. My child has a slight cough with their cold symptoms. Do they need a test?
A2. This is a very grey area! If your child has developed a slight cough after having a runny nose and nasal congestion, this is less likely to be covid, which tends to present with a more constant cough. Schools may have different policies about who they will accept in school. As GPs, we are unable to distinguish between covid and non-covid coughs just by examining a child and would ask that you follow your school’s particular policy when deciding to send your child in with a cough. Some schools are taking a more relaxed approach to milder coughs though there is little guidance on this matter. However, if your child has a fever, you should self isolate and get a test.
Q 3. My child has symptoms of coronavirus. What should I do?
A 3. The whole household should self isolate until you can get a test for the symptomatic person (and the result is negative) or if you are unable/ too late to get a test, self-isolate for 2 weeks. When you have a negative test, please contact the school.
Q 4. My child has been told to self isolate as a child in their school bubble has tested positive for coronavirus. What should I do?
A 4. Your child is the only one who needs to self isolate if they are a contact of someone who tested positive. However, if they develop symptoms, The whole household should self isolate until you can get a test for the symptomatic person (and the result is negative) or if unable/ too late to get a test, for 2 weeks. Please see your school newsletters/ guidance for specific school policies.
Q5 I have tried to get a test for myself/ family member (with symptoms) but there are none available.
A 5. You should remain in self isolation as a household until you can get a test. It is not possible to tell the difference between Covid 19 and other viruses such as flu without a test. It is possible that there may be more guidance on this in the future but at this stage anyone with new, continuous cough, fevers or loss of sense of smell needs to follow the above guidance on self-isolation and testing.
We are aware that there are significant problems getting tests for coronavirus if you or a family member has symptoms. Currently, Government run test centres at Bentley Road and Yesodey Hatorah School are NOT able to accept walk-up tests without an appointment for the time being. This is due to a lack of testing capacity. If you need a test, please book your appointment by calling 119 or go online: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/testing-and-tracing/get-a-test-to-check-if-you-have-coronavirus/. Please DO NOT call the surgery. We are unable to get tests any other way at present. London Borough of Hackney is raising concerns with the Department of Health and Social Care about this issue. They are continuing to campaign with the relevant authorities for increased opportunities for Hackney residents to get tested quickly and easily at convenient locations. The Mayor of Hackney and the Director of Public Health have asked people to contact email@example.com with any examples of patients finding it difficult to get a test, in order to help them lobby nationally.

The helpline is staffed by expert advisors who talk to residents and understand their needs holistically, working with them to match them to relevant services in their community. The helpline can connect patients to services on a broad range of issues including:

- Befriending services
- Debt and money advice
- Public health guidance relating to the pandemic

Try the NHS App
If you’re a patient at our practice you can now use the new NHS App, a simple and secure way to access a range of NHS services on your smartphone or tablet.
You can use the NHS App to check your symptoms and get instant advice, book appointments, order repeat prescriptions, view your GP medical record and more.
If you already use Patient Access you can continue to use it. You can use the NHS App as well.

Helpful notes when trying to access our services
Test Results – Please call after 10.00am as the phones will be less busy after this time
Urgent appointments – Please phone or come to the surgery from 8.00am in the morning to book for an urgent appointment. At present all appointments will be via a telephone consultation with a doctor and you will be booked for a face to face if required.
New Registrations – Please bring back your completed forms between 10.00am and 5.00pm as the process can take some time. Please note we will be unable to register you if there is only one member of staff at the desk and you may be asked to come back at another time if this is the case. – please feel free to phone to arrange a time to come for this purpose
Repeat prescriptions - Please allow 48 hours for processing. Please do not phone for repeat prescriptions. We have now moved to electronic prescribing which means you can order your repeat prescriptions online via the NHS app or Patient Access, via your local pharmacy or via the scripts request desk in reception. At the present time as we try to limit unnecessary visits to the practice, please try to request scripts online or via your local nominated pharmacy.
Statham Grove Practice Walk
Sadly, due to the current pandemic, the walk has had to be postponed for the time being. However, Hackney Council with the guidance of local expert Sean Gubbins has devised a range of local walks of interest throughout Hackney.
Sean has used his knowledge and creativity to offer self-led history focused walks to do in your permitted daily exercise during the current lockdown. The routes are snippets of Walk Hackney’s walks, devised and led by Sean Gubbins since 2002.
To relieve pressure on the parks at this time, these routes are largely through local streets. Please remember to:
● Keep to the 2-metre social distancing from people you pass by;
● Take care crossing roads - use controlled crossings where possible.
