Breast Screening
All eligible women aged 50 to 70 are sent an appointment by post. If you are unable to attend the appointment given to you, you may ring the Breast Screening Service on 020 3465 6631 and arrange your own appointment at a time convenient to you. The service also provides evening and Saturday appointments. Visit the website
Cervical screening
The aim of the NHS Cervical Screening Programme is to reduce the number of women who develop cervical cancer and the number of women who die from the condition. Since the screening programme was introduced in the 1980s, the number of cervical cancer cases has decreased by about 7% each year.
All women who are registered with a GP are invited for cervical screening:
- aged 25 to 49 - every three years
- aged 50 to 64 - every five years
- over 65 - only women who haven't been screened since age 50 or those who have recently had abnormal tests
Bowel Cancer Screening
If you are aged 60 to 74, you will receive a letter inviting you to take part in the bowel cancer screening programme. The letter will include a leaflet, which explains the benefits and risks of screening. You will be invited to take part in screening every two years until you reach the age of 75. Visit the website

Aged 40 to 74
The NHS Health Check is your chance to get a free midlife MOT. For adults in England aged 40-74 without a pre-existing condition, it checks your circulatory and vascular health and what your risk of getting a disabling disease is.
